"The staff was so nice and kept me informed about every step of the repair process. I love that they sent me a text that had a detailed report of the inspection with pictures. Prices were reasonable and less than I thought it would be. I will be returning in the future. Thank you."

Matthew Medbourn

"Brakes needed repairing immediately. My friend recommended Bartels and they were able to get me in and fix brakes the same day. A Saturday at that! Sent me videos before doing any work. Cost half as much as it would at Gerald Nissan. Highly recommend."

Eric Emanuel

"I came in to get an alternator replaced and they did an excellent job. The staff was professional, friendly and well informed. They also swapped the battery for free as well since it had also died. They really care about their customers here and this shows through the service and pricing."

Ray Perez

"I recently visited Bartel's Auto Clinic to get a wheel alignment for my car, and I am extremely satisfied with the service I received. The staff was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend Bartel's Auto Clinic for their excellent service and expertise in wheel alignments."

A BIT ABOUT US

A FAMILY OWNED AND OPERATED BUSINESS SINCE 1958!

Family-owned by three generations of dedicated business owners and mechanics, Bartel's Auto Clinic's history spans over six decades, marking a legacy of automotive excellence and community trust.

The Beginning: A Legacy Founded in 1958

It all began when family patriarch, Robert "Bob" Bartel, started working with his father-in-law at Howard's Standard in Villa Park. Bob, inheriting the business upon his father-in-law's passing, encountered his first major challenge in 1965: a tornado that devastated the original establishment. Showing resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, he reopened in 1966 as Bartel's Auto. Bob's commitment to integrity became the cornerstone of the business, leading to 30 years of sustained growth and success.

Expansion and Growth: The Next Generations

In 1979, the legacy continued with Bob's eldest son, Patrick Bartel, bringing new energy and ideas to the business. Under the shared philosophy of their patriarch, they expanded, opening five more Bartel's Auto locations, reflecting a blend of tradition and innovation.

2004 marked another significant milestone when Patrick's son, Adam Bartel, stepped into the family business. Adam played a pivotal role in launching Bartel's Auto Clinic in Oswego in 2006, further diversifying the family's automotive services. The passing of Bob Bartel in 2011 was a poignant moment, occurring just before the opening of another location in Plainfield—a testament to his enduring legacy.

Continuing the Legacy: Present and Future

The Bartel family's commitment continued to deepen with Amy Bartel joining in 2015. Contributing to marketing and accounting, she formed a strong partnership with Adam. Together, they are set on steering Bartel Enterprises towards a future of continued growth and community service.

At Bartel's Auto Clinic, with convenient locations in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, we understand the importance of keeping your vehicle in top condition. One critical aspect of vehicle maintenance that often gets overlooked is the transmission. Your vehicle's transmission is a complex mechanical system that plays a vital role in ensuring smooth and efficient operation. In this guide, we'll help you learn how to identify common transmission issues before they become major problems. Understanding Your Transmission Before we dive into the common issues, it's essential to have a basic understanding of how your vehicle's transmission works. In simple terms, the transmission is responsible for transmitting power from the engine to the wheels, allowing your vehicle to move forward or backward. It also controls the speed and power applied to the wheels. There are two main types of transmissions: automatic and manual. Common Transmission Problems Unusual Noises Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL residents often encounter strange noises coming from their transmissions. If you hear clunking, whining, or grinding sounds when shifting gears or driving, it could indicate a transmission problem. These noises might be a sign of worn-out gears, a damaged torque converter, or low transmission fluid. Slipping Gears A transmission that slips out of gear unexpectedly is a serious concern. If your vehicle struggles to stay in gear or shifts on its own, it's a clear indication of transmission trouble. This can result from worn-out clutch plates, damaged solenoids, or low transmission fluid levels. Delayed or Rough Shifting If you notice a delay between shifting gears or experience a jolt when your vehicle shifts, there may be issues with the transmission. This can be caused by worn-out synchronizers, a faulty torque converter, or a fluid-related problem. Fluid Leaks Leaking transmission fluid is a telltale sign of trouble. Transmission fluid is essential for lubricating and cooling the transmission components. If you spot red or brown fluid under your vehicle, it's crucial to address the leak promptly. Ignoring it can lead to severe damage to your transmission. Warning Lights Modern vehicles are equipped with onboard computers that can detect transmission issues and trigger warning lights on the dashboard. If you see the "Check Engine" light or a transmission-specific warning light illuminated, it's essential to have your vehicle inspected by professionals at Bartel's Auto Clinic. Burning Smell A burning smell coming from your vehicle's transmission is a red flag. Overheating can cause transmission fluid to burn and emit a distinct odor. This could result from low fluid levels, a malfunctioning cooler, or excessive towing or heavy loads. What to Do If You Suspect Transmission Issues If you notice any of these common transmission problems in your vehicle, it's crucial to take action promptly. Ignoring transmission issues can lead to costly repairs down the road. Here are the steps to follow: Check Transmission Fluid: Start by checking the transmission fluid level. Low fluid levels can lead to many transmission problems. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for instructions on how to check the fluid level and top it up if necessary. Schedule an Inspection: Contact Bartel's Auto Clinic in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, or Plainfield, IL, to schedule a comprehensive transmission inspection. Our experienced technicians will diagnose the issue and provide you with a detailed assessment. Follow Recommended Maintenance: Regular transmission maintenance, including fluid changes and filter replacements, can extend the life of your transmission and prevent issues from arising. Avoid Excessive Stress: Avoid towing heavy loads beyond your vehicle's capacity and practice smooth and gentle driving to reduce stress on the transmission. Address Issues Promptly: If you suspect transmission problems, don't delay in seeking professional assistance. Timely repairs can prevent minor issues from becoming major and expensive repairs. Conclusion Your vehicle's transmission is a vital component that requires proper care and attention. By learning to identify common transmission issues early on, you can save yourself from costly repairs and keep your vehicle running smoothly. If you're in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, or Plainfield, IL, and encounter any transmission problems, don't hesitate to reach out to Bartel's Auto Clinic. Our team of experts is here to ensure your vehicle's transmission stays in excellent condition.

At Bartel's Auto Clinic, with locations in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, we understand that vehicle maintenance is essential for ensuring a long and trouble-free lifespan for your car. One of the most fundamental aspects of vehicle maintenance is the regular oil change. In this article, we will delve into the significance of regular oil changes and how they contribute to the longevity and performance of your vehicle. Why Are Oil Changes Vital? Oil is often referred to as the lifeblood of your vehicle's engine. It plays a critical role in lubricating, cooling, and cleaning the engine components, allowing them to function smoothly. Over time, oil breaks down and becomes less effective, accumulating dirt and contaminants that can lead to engine damage if left unchanged. This is where regular oil changes at Bartel's Auto Clinic become essential. Improved Engine Performance: Regular oil changes enhance engine performance by ensuring that all moving parts are properly lubricated. When your engine runs smoothly, it operates more efficiently, which can result in better fuel economy and reduced emissions. This not only saves you money at the pump but also benefits the environment. Extended Engine Life: Perhaps the most compelling reason for regular oil changes is their role in extending the life of your vehicle's engine. Clean and adequately lubricated engine components experience less wear and tear, reducing the risk of costly repairs or premature engine failure. At Bartel's Auto Clinic, we recommend adhering to your manufacturer's recommended oil change intervals, which can typically range from 3,000 to 7,500 miles, depending on your vehicle and the type of oil used. Preventing Sludge Build-Up: Over time, oil can become contaminated with impurities and moisture, leading to the formation of engine-damaging sludge. This sludge can clog critical engine passages and reduce efficiency. Regular oil changes remove old, contaminated oil and replace it with fresh, clean oil, preventing sludge build-up and maintaining optimal engine performance. Enhanced Fuel Efficiency: Efficient engines translate to better fuel economy. Clean oil reduces friction and helps the engine run cooler, resulting in improved fuel efficiency. This means fewer trips to the gas station and more money saved over the long run. Reduced Harmful Emissions: A well-maintained engine produces fewer harmful emissions. Regular oil changes at Bartel's Auto Clinic can contribute to reducing your vehicle's environmental impact by ensuring that your engine operates as cleanly as possible. Maintaining Warranty: If your vehicle is under warranty, it's essential to adhere to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule, including oil changes. Neglecting this can void your warranty, potentially leaving you responsible for costly repairs. Bartel's Auto Clinic ensures that your vehicle's maintenance is in line with warranty requirements, keeping you protected. Conclusion: In conclusion, regular oil changes are a fundamental aspect of vehicle maintenance that should not be overlooked. At Bartel's Auto Clinic, with locations in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, we emphasize the importance of this routine maintenance procedure for the longevity and performance of your vehicle. By ensuring your engine remains clean and well-lubricated, you not only extend its lifespan but also enjoy benefits like improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and peace of mind knowing your vehicle is in optimal condition. Don't wait until it's too late; schedule your next oil change with us and experience the difference it can make for your vehicle.

Brakes: they're the unsung heroes of our daily drives. In Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, where the roads can throw just about anything at you, from icy patches to sudden stops, understanding the ins and outs of your car's braking system isn't just a nice-to-know—it's a must. That's why we at Bartel's Auto Clinic are here to guide you through the essentials of brake maintenance and care. The Basics of Braking: What You Need to Know Your car's braking system is a complex symphony of parts working in unison to ensure your safety. At its core, the system comprises brake pads, rotors, calipers, and brake fluid. Each component plays a critical role: Brake Pads: These are the friction providers. They press against the rotors to slow down your vehicle. Rotors: These disc-shaped components spin with your wheels. When the brake pads clamp down on them, they create the friction needed to stop. Calipers: These house the brake pads and are responsible for applying the pressure to them. Brake Fluid: This hydraulic fluid transfers the force from your brake pedal to the calipers. Routine Maintenance: Keeping Your Brakes in Top Shape In Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, where weather and road conditions can vary, regular brake maintenance is crucial. Here’s how you can keep your brakes performing optimally: Regular Inspections: We recommend checking your brakes at least twice a year. Look for wear on the pads and rotors, and listen for any unusual noises when braking. Brake Fluid Checks: Brake fluid can absorb moisture over time, which can lead to less effective braking. It's important to check the fluid levels and quality regularly. Pad Replacement: Brake pads wear down with use. When the thickness reduces to about a quarter of an inch, it’s time for a replacement. Recognizing the Signs of Brake Trouble Your car will often tell you when something's amiss with the brakes. Here are some signs you shouldn’t ignore: Squealing or Grinding Noises: This usually indicates that your brake pads are worn out. Vibrations: If your steering wheel shakes when you brake, it could mean your rotors are warped. Soft Brake Pedal: If your brake pedal feels unusually soft, it could be a sign of a leak in the brake system. The Bartel's Auto Clinic Difference At Bartel's Auto Clinic, located in Carol Stream, IL, Oswego, IL, and Plainfield, IL, we don’t just fix your car’s issues; we educate you on how to prevent them. Brake Fluid Flush: Regularly flushing the brake system can prevent long-term issues and maintain brake responsiveness.
